This powerful colt should have you lying awake at night wondering just how far his raw talent and quality pedigree will take him. We think it could take him as far as Churchill Downs this fall for the Breeders Cup Juvenile.
While this sounds like a lofty goal, he genuinely does possess all the qualities to allow for such optimism: Magnificent looks, breathtaking action/speed, soundness, intelligence and a professional/mature attitude. His effortless breeze in 10:2 was done the right way, and we clocked him galloping out in 35:1 for three furlongs. Most impressive, indeed.
His pedigree also warrants high regard. His sire is the top class, record breaking sprinter HENNY HUGHES…the only three year old to win the G1 King’s Bishop and G1 Vosburgh. Highlights of his racing career include:
| Race | Age | Purse | Finish | Winning Margin |
| MSW | 2 | $37,000 | 1 | 6 lengths |
| Tremont S | 2 | $100,000 | 1 | 15 lengths |
| Saratoga Special G2 | 2 | $150,000 | 1 | 4 lengths |
| BC Juvenile G1 | 2 | $1,600,000 | 2 | |
| Champagne S G1 | 2 | $500,000 | 2 | |
| Hopeful S G1 | 2 | $250,000 | 2 | |
| Vosburgh S G1 | 3 | $400,00 | 1 | 3 lengths Stakes record/ a-1 Ragozin # |
| King’s Bishop S G1 | 3 | $250,000 | 1 | 5 lengths |
| Jersey Shore BC G1 | 3 | $150,000 | 1 | 10 lengths |
Total: 10 starts; 6 wins; 3 seconds --- $1,125,000 in earnings.
HENNY HUGHES has the makings to be a leading sire. His first crop will debut this year. The Thoroughbred Times “Freshman Sire Forecasts” (3/6/10) included the following highlights:
"I have HENNY HUGHES at the top of the list. I saw a lot more consistency with his foal crop than with other sires. I saw a lot of quality." - Chris Baccari (Baccari Bloodstock)
"The HENNY HUGHES were a real powerful, very precocious, well balanced bunch. To me, they look a lot like their daddy. Everybody expects them to be early. I’ve heard really good things about them." – Tony Bowling (M & H Bloodstock)
"The HENNY HUGHES are going to be early. They’re very shapely with quality. They look a lot like him." – Joseph Brocklebank
The colt’s dam, Flapper Dancer, is by the Grade 1 winning FAPPIANO. She was a multiple winner. More importantly, however, she has produced ten foals to race --- all winners! She is by a NORTHERN DANCER stakes placed mare named ALL DANCE, who threw eight winners, including two multiple stakes winners (one Grade 1). Also “close up” in the female side are multiple Grade 1 winning champions CHRIS EVERT and WINNING COLORS. This is a family with an abundance of class.
Another interesting fact…when STORM CAT stallions are crossed with MR. PROSPECTOR line mares (as is the case with this colt), Grade 1 winning offspring have included such horses as ARAGORN, CARRIAGE TRAIL, FIRST SAMURAI, FROST GIANT, JOHANNESBURG, MAID’S CAUSEWAY, MY TYPHOON, TALE OF THE CAT, and many more.
This gorgeous colt has EVERYTHING going for him, as he’s a “chip off the old block.” If it were not a buyer’s market, we never could have afforded this type of quality. He fits our program at Whitehall Stable, as we want an “early” two year old for 2010. We think he’ll start making some noise as early as July/August. Get ready!
